Muizzu Acknowledges Strong Support in First Round of Election Despite Challenges

In the first round of the presidential election, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, representing the People’s National Congress (PNC) as the presidential candidate, has described his achievement of securing over 100,000 votes (46 percent) as a significant success, despite facing government influences and pressures.
Following the release of the election results, Muizzu expressed his gratitude for the support and trust placed in him by the people. He described the day as a moment of great happiness and commended the citizens of Maldives for exemplifying a strong sense of national unity and determination in the face of external pressures.
During his 28-day campaign period, Muizzu observed a prevailing desire among the people for a change in government and a forward-looking approach aligned with the opposition. He acknowledged the government’s efforts to influence and exert pressure on the electoral process but emphasised that the people’s decision showcased their strong determination to steer the country in a new direction.
Muizzu remains optimistic about the upcoming second round of the election and expressed confidence in his ability to secure victory through grassroots campaigning and engagement with the electorate. He indicated that the leadership would engage in discussions to determine collaboration with other parties in the second round.
Looking ahead, Muizzu outlined his priorities, emphasising the need to address the current challenges, ensure national independence, foster development, and revitalize the economy. He pledged to focus on these critical issues in the coming weeks, with the belief that the trust and support of the people would propel him to victory.
