The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced that re-registration for the upcoming second round of the presidential election will be available on September 16th and 17th.
In the first round of the presidential election, a total of 282,395 individuals were deemed eligible to vote. However, this number is expected to fluctuate for the second round due to citizens who will come of voting age during this period.
The ECM is set to accept applications for re-registration during the specified dates and will also open the voters’ list for complaints before finalising the official list.
The second round of the presidential election is slated for September 30th, necessitated by none of the candidates securing the required 50% of the votes in the initial round.
The ECM has reported that 225,486 of the eligible voters exercised their voting rights, with a total of 4,835 ballots deemed invalid.
This year’s presidential election has witnessed the lowest voter turnout in the nation’s history, with 79% of eligible voters participating in the electoral process.
