Police Resume Traffic Enforcement: Motorists Face Fines for Violations

The police have resumed their efforts in conducting vehicle stop-and-search operations and imposing fines on motorists found in violation of traffic regulations.
This resumption follows a period during which the police had scaled down their traffic enforcement activities in light of the presidential election.
In recent days, there has been a noticeable increase in the presence of traffic police at checkpoints established across Male’ and Hulhumale’.
At these checkpoints, traffic police typically carry out inspections of driver’s licenses and monitor for any traffic violations. For first-time offenders, a warning is issued rather than an immediate fine.
It is worth noting that just four days prior to the first round of voting in the presidential election, President Solih announced the waiver of all outstanding parking fines as of September 5.
