The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has issued a warning to the public about a circulating fraudulent message falsely claiming to be from TMA and requesting payment for customs fees to retrieve a package from DHL.

Police took to Twitter to caution the public against engaging with this deceptive message and its embedded link. They have strongly advised against sharing any cash card information through the link.

Reports have emerged of significant financial losses suffered by individuals who fell victim to this scam, with substantial amounts of money being illicitly withdrawn from their accounts. As a result, the police have urged citizens to exercise utmost vigilance and caution when encountering such messages.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a high level of security consciousness, especially in the digital age.

Authorities have consistently emphasised that legitimate banks and government agencies will never request sensitive cash card information or account details via unsolicited links or phone calls.
