Senior members of the Jumhooree Party (JP) have declared their support for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the second round of the presidential race, during a rally hosted at the Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Sosan Jagaha last night.

Among the figures who have chosen to align with President Solih’s campaign is Dr. Ameen Ibrahim, who previously served as the running mate of JP leader Gasim Ibrahim in the first round of the presidential elections.

Additionally, the party’s deputy leaders and council members have united behind President Solih’s candidacy.

The ceremony marking this endorsement was attended by President Solih himself, alongside MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail, various ministers, and members of parliament.

President Solih expressed his confidence in securing victory in the upcoming presidential election, emphasising the unity of JP members who have joined forces with the MDP campaign.

Meanwhile, JP leader Gasim Ibrahim maintained that party members possess the autonomy to support any candidate of their choice, even if they opt not to form a coalition with any other political group.

Former MPs Riyaz Rasheed and Ilham Ahmed have also joined the ranks of those endorsing President Solih, adding further weight to his campaign.
