ECM Seeks Additional Officials for Elections 2023

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has issued a call for additional officials to support the upcoming 2023 elections. 

ECM which is responsible for overseeing the electoral process, is seeking individuals to fill crucial roles at voting locations.

Applications for these positions can be obtained through the government Gazette or the ECM website. Interested candidates can also submit their applications in person at the ECM reception located on the 5th floor of the ports complex or online via jobs@elections.gov.mv.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:

– Be 18 years of age or older.

– Not hold a senior position within any political party.

– Not actively engage in campaign activities for any candidate.

– Not have familial ties (mother, father, son, wife, husband, sibling, brother, or sister) with a candidate running in the same constituency or island for which the application is submitted.

– Possess the necessary education and experience to serve as an official.

– Be in good health to perform the duties required.

– Not be serving a sentence for a criminal offence.

The compensation for these available positions are as follows:

– Head of the polling station: MVR 1500 on polling day only.

– Assistant to the head of the polling station: MVR 1200 on polling day only.

– Polling station official: MVR 1000 on polling day only.

– Reserve official: MVR 500 on polling day only.

In addition to wages, officials will receive meals and tea on polling day as determined by the Commission. Those appointed as the head of the polling station will also receive a phone allowance of MVR 100.

Applicants selected for these roles will be required to complete a specific training program, and a training allowance of MVR 300 will be provided upon successful completion. Failure to complete this training will disqualify applicants from consideration.

The training program is scheduled to be conducted by the end of September.

Applicants should be aware that if they are issued applications to become polling officials, observers, monitors, or candidate’s representatives, their application to become an official will be void.

The number of officials recruited will be based on the requirements of the election, and once this number is reached, further recruitment will not occur.

To apply, candidates need to provide the following:

– Presidential Election 2023 Polling Station Official Application Form

– Duplicate copy of Maldivian Citizenship Card

– Copy of the highest educational certificate obtained

– One passport-size photograph

Candidates interested in applying for these positions are requested to submit their applications by 15:00 on Friday, September 29. However, applications will continue to be accepted until a sufficient number of suitable personnel is available.
