Interim Report on Constituency Population Released Ahead of 2024 Parliamentary Elections

In anticipation of the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections, an interim report detailing the population determination for the constituencies has been officially disclosed, By the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM), for public awareness.

The report outlines information regarding the demographics and constituency boundaries that will shape the forthcoming parliamentary elections. It serves as a preliminary assessment to ensure that constituencies accurately represent the population distribution.

The number of members of the Parliament Members is determined as follows

– Two members for the first 5,000 registered population in each administrative district of Maldives or for each administrative district with less than 5,000 registered population.

– If the registered population of an administrative area of Maldives exceeds 5,000, one member for every 5,000 persons exceeding the first 5,000 persons of the population. 

For those who may have concerns or observations regarding the interim report, there is a designated period for submitting complaints. Citizens are invited to raise any issues they may have from September 28, 2023, until October 19, 2023. 

Complaints can be lodged between 08:30 am and 03:00 pm on non-official holidays and from 09:00 am to 03:00 pm on public holidays. Additionally, on Sundays, complaints will be accepted from 03:00 to 05:00 p.m.
