In a bid to address the longstanding grievances of families who were relocated to Gan in the aftermath of the devastating tsunami, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced a financial allowance of MVR 50,000 for each affected household.

The decision comes after the Gan Council issued a statement today highlighting the absence of financial support for families who were relocated from Mundoo/Kalhaidhoo and resettled in Gan.

To facilitate the disbursement of the allowance, eligible families are invited to submit a formal request to the council.

The application process will be overseen by the property owner of the house in Mundoo or Kalhaidhoo. In cases where the property owner is deceased or unable to apply, one of the legal heirs may do so on their behalf.

The application window will be open from the 5th to the 21st of the upcoming month.

The relocation of residents from Mundoo and Kalhaidhoo to Gan occurred in 2015, prompted by the damage caused by the tsunami.
