Transparency Maldives has reported that during the recent election, the opening procedures for polling stations proceeded smoothly, with all stations operational by 9:00 am, marking a promising start to the electoral process.

The data collected by Transparency Maldives reveals that an impressive 94.3% of polling stations began their operations within the first 10 minutes of the required opening time. A further 5.4% of polling stations initiated their proceedings between 8:10 and 8:30 am. This punctuality reflects the commitment of election officials to adhere to the prescribed schedule.

Furthermore, Transparency Maldives noted that nearly all polling station officials were promptly in place, ensuring that the electoral process commenced without significant delays.

Transparency Maldives also noted a high police presence outside 97% of the observed polling stations at the opening time.

Observers from Transparency Maldives concluded that the majority of polling stations, approximately 96%, were established to ensure a secret vote. However, in approximately 4% of cases observed, this was less clear.

These specific polling stations will be closely monitored by Transparency Maldives observers, and it is urged that polling officials, observers, monitors, and voters adhere to the guidelines set by the Elections Commission to guarantee the secrecy of the vote throughout the election day.

Transparency Maldives calls upon all parties to maintain peace during the voting process and following the announcement of preliminary results.
