The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has disclosed its plan to present the official certificate of victory to the winner of this year’s presidential election in a special ceremony.

Vice-Chairman Ismail Habeeb, speaking at a press conference where the preparations for the second round of the presidential election were unveiled, confirmed ECM’s decision to issue an official document to the winning candidate.

The ECM aims to distinguish this year’s election certification process by conducting a dedicated ceremony for the official handover of the victory certificate.

Ismail Habeeb elaborated on this decision, stating, “This time, the Commission is planning something different. It has been decided that the official certificate of election will be presented to the candidate alongside the official results in a ceremony. We are optimistic about holding this ceremony with the official results.”

The initial round of this year’s presidential election featured eight candidates. However, none of the candidates secured the necessary majority, necessitating a second round of voting.

In the upcoming second round, the top two candidates from the initial round will compete for the presidency. These candidates are Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate of the People’s National Congress (PNC), and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the presidential candidate of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
