President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, following his defeat in the recent presidential election, has affirmed his commitment to working alongside the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to ensure governmental accountability and to further the cause of democracy in the Maldives.
During his first press conference since the election, Solih was asked about his future political affiliations, to which he responded that he would remain a member of the MDP. His dedication to the party stems from a belief that there is still significant work to be undertaken in order to bolster and refine the democratic framework in the Maldives.
Solih, whose current term will be his last as he plans to retire after a second term in office, has underscored that his immediate focus is strengthening the MDP. He has also indicated that he will make decisions regarding his political future at a later juncture.
Despite his electoral defeat, President Solih expressed satisfaction with the good governance delivered during his five-year term.
