Additionally, Jabir emphasised the importance of educating citizens about the parliamentary system for the next five years before considering a transition from the current Presidential System to a Parliamentary system.
The Democrats, formerly aligned with the MDP, opted for a separate path, culminating in the formation of their breakaway faction.
During his statement at the People’s Majlis, Jabir stressed the importance of ensuring that the citizens of the Maldives are well-informed about the workings of a parliamentary system. He asserted that public education and awareness are paramount before any substantial alterations are made to the nation’s governance structure.
The parliamentary system, characterised by its distinct separation of powers between the executive and legislative branches, stands in contrast to the current presidential system.
The response from The Democrats to Jabir’s call for dissolution and their reintegration into the MDP remains uncertain at this juncture.
