Former President Abdullah Yameen, who was convicted of bribery and money laundering in relation to the V. Aarah case, is due to have his appeal heard on Tuesday.

Yameen received an 11-year prison sentence for his involvement in the V. Aarah case, while former Felidhoo MP Yousuf Naeem was handed a three-year jail term for bribery.

The High Court had already conducted a preliminary hearing on the appeals submitted by both Yameen and Naeem.

Yameen’s legal representatives have confirmed that a further hearing in the case is scheduled for the upcoming Sunday.

The proceedings in the High Court are now drawing to a close, and it’s worth noting that Yameen is currently serving his sentence under house arrest, as determined by the Correctional Service.

Furthermore, Yameen’s conviction and subsequent sentence led to his disqualification from participating in presidential elections.
