The appeal hearing for the 11-year jail sentence handed down to former President Abdullah Yameen has been canceled following a request by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The cancellation of the hearing, originally scheduled for 2:00 pm today, came in light of the unavailability of certain lawyers involved in the case, as confirmed by the prosecution.
The appeal in question pertains to a money laundering case involving Yameen. Notably, judges and legal representatives are currently being questioned as part of the ongoing proceedings.
At present, Yameen is under house arrest, following a directive by President-Elect Mohamed Muizzu for his transfer to his residence. It is worth mentioning that Yameen’s legal team has previously urged for the withdrawal of charges against their client.
