The President-elect’s Office has officially announced the formation of a seven-member committee tasked with crafting the state budget for the upcoming year.
During a press conference, Mohamed Firuzul, who serves as the spokesperson for the President-elect, provided an update to the public regarding the committee’s progress. He revealed that the committee had begun its work by contacting the Finance Ministry to gather essential task-related information.
Firuzul further explained that the committee is obtaining crucial details about the state’s current financial standing and the expected financial outlook for the forthcoming year.
In discussions concerning the government’s role in budget formulation, Firuzul noted that during a meeting between the current President and the President-elect, there were assurances of collaboration in the budget planning process. As a result, the budget for the year 2024 will be developed with careful consideration of the President-elect’s priorities and requirements.
Firuzul also mentioned that during the meeting with the President, the Speaker of the Parliament, and the MDP (Maldivian Democratic Party), all parties expressed their commitment to working closely with the President-elect and their team to prepare the budget.
Switching topics, Firuzul highlighted that reports suggest that certain agencies and companies are actively recruiting individuals, promoting job vacancies, and even creating new job positions. Firuzul strongly advised these organisations against adopting such practices during the transitional period.
Firuzul concluded by stating that while the interim committee has yet to visit any of these agencies, they have initiated contact by sending letters requesting the agencies to provide necessary information to assist the committee in its work.
