President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled to take place on November 17th at Republic Square, according to an announcement made by the Transitional spokesman, Mohamed Firuzul.
During a press conference held earlier today, Firuzul explained that the arrangements for this ceremony would be overseen by the Parliament, in compliance with the Constitutional requirements.
Typically, the swearing-in ceremony is conducted by the Parliament upon the request of the newly elected President. Currently, discussions are ongoing between the Parliament and the President-elect to formalise the details of the ceremony.
However, Firuzul cautioned that changes to these plans may be necessary due to weather conditions.
The Presidential Administration of Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in 2013 also commenced on November 17, though this followed the annulment of the first round of the election by the Supreme Court.
This delay in the start of the term was the result of a decision made by the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the incumbent president has expressed a desire for the president-elect to be sworn in on November 11, provided there are no legal impediments. However, it has been clarified that November 11 is not a feasible date due to legal constraints.
