People’s Majlis Seeks Public Opinion on Election Commission Nomination

People’s Majlis, has initiated a public consultation process regarding the nomination of a member for the Election Commission.

This move comes after the term of office for a member of the Election Commission expired.
The President of the Maldives has submitted the nomination of Mr. Ali Nashath to the Parliament for consideration and approval as the new member of the Election Commission. The parliamentary session to deliberate and finalise this appointment is scheduled for the 29th of May, 2023.
During the 5th session of the parliamentary proceedings, the bill related to this appointment was referred to the Committee on Independent Institutions. Therefore, the confirmation of Mr. Ali Nashath’s appointment to the Election Commission now rests with this committee.
In adherence to parliamentary rules and procedures, a notice has been issued, inviting members of the public to voice any complaints or concerns they may have regarding the nomination.
The deadline for submitting complaints is set for the 10th of October, before 14:00. Those wishing to file a complaint are required to provide their full name, permanent address, and contact telephone number.
Complaints can be sent via email to the committee’s official address at mv.gov.majlis@committee or submitted in writing to the office of the Parliament.
