The International Aid Campaign (IAC) has announced its intention to collaborate with the Maldivian media in hosting a telethon to provide assistance to Palestinians affected by the recent surge of violence in Gaza.

In a press conference, Mohamed Ali, Director of International Relations, stressed the enduring significance of the Palestinian cause for the IAC. As part of their commitment, the organisation will organise the telethon, which is scheduled to take place from October 13 to 17.

During the press conference, Adam Naaif, Vice Chairman, revealed additional measures to boost fundraising efforts. Fund collection points will be established outside mosques in Male’ City, encouraging citizens to engage in fundraising activities throughout the country.

Furthermore, a women’s rally is set to be held at the Artificial Beach in Male’ City, alongside a fundraising event scheduled at Central Park in Hulhumale’ on October 13. Additionally, a silent protest is planned for October 14 at the Artificial Beach. The public is encouraged to participate in these activities to support the Palestinians.

The IAC has been actively involved since the onset of the Israeli offensive on October 7, providing essential supplies, including food packages, to medical professionals in three hospitals. Currently, the IAC is distributing 1,000 food packages to Palestinians in Gaza.

The recent surge in violence has resulted in a devastating toll, with over 1,200 casualties, predominantly civilian, and more than 338,000 people displaced in Gaza. The relentless aerial and artillery strikes have led to the destruction of entire city blocks.

The extensive damage has left Gaza grappling with severe devastation, as more than 2,540 housing units have been either completely destroyed or rendered uninhabitable. Concerns are growing over the deepening humanitarian crisis in the long-blockaded Palestinian enclave.

Israel has implemented a total siege, disrupting access to essential resources, including water, food, and energy supplies. The enclave’s sole power plant has ceased operations due to a lack of fuel, and critical medical resources, including oxygen, are in short supply at Gaza’s overwhelmed Al-Shifa hospital.
