Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced over 800 individuals have enrolled in the specialised training programme aimed at waiving fines for traffic violations.
This initiative, endorsed by the President Solih, seeks to grant relief from traffic-related fines incurred between November 17, 2018, and September 5 of the current year.
The Ministry of Transport has outlined that traffic rule violation fines will only be forgiven upon successful completion of a unique training programme. Applications for participation in this program were first accepted on September 25 of the previous year, and to date, approximately 850 individuals have taken part.
The Ministry of Transport is actively preparing for the upcoming launch of the training programme. Finalisation of the training venue is currently in progress.
To qualify for the fine waiver, individuals will need to undergo a 20-hour training program, formulated in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service (MPS). The program’s primary objective is to promote awareness of traffic regulations and address various social issues.
Those interested in participating in the training program still have the opportunity to apply until the 25th of this month, with applications being accepted through the Ministry of Transport’s SIMS portal, which can be accessed via https://sims.transport.gov.mv.
The MPS will oversee the training sessions, which are expected to last between two weeks and one month. The overarching aim of this initiative is to curtail the recurrence of traffic violations and enhance public awareness of traffic rules and other societal concerns.
