Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has declared his intention to retire from the Maldives Police Service, with his retirement set for 11th November, in a message to senior police officials today.
Hameed, who pursued higher education in intelligence, experienced a period of dismissal from the police force during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
This dismissal was based on allegations of leaking classified information.
Hameed, married to the sister of First Lady Fazna Ahmed, filed a lawsuit in response to his alleged unlawful termination.
Ultimately, he won the lawsuit, leading to his reinstatement within the police force. This occurred following the conclusion of the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Hameed’s tenure as Commissioner of Police commenced on March 26, 2019, and his impending retirement on November 11 marks the end of his service in this capacity.
