Reflecting on his two-and-a-half-year tenure as Mayor, Muizzu acknowledged the challenges he faced in advancing the city’s development, citing restrictions imposed by the government.

The gathering marked Muizzu’s farewell meeting with the council staff, during which he extended his gratitude to them for their dedication and hard work.
Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh praised Muizzu’s contributions to the city’s development, noting that most objectives had been achieved, with only the unfinished tasks requiring government cooperation.
Muizzu previously emphasised his intention to grant permissions for major projects that had previously been delayed due to regulatory hurdles. He outlined plans to bolster the Local Government Authority (LGA) and establish a dedicated ministry to oversee daily council requirements and grant necessary permits.
As a token of appreciation for Muizzu’s leadership over the past two and a half years, the city council presented him with a plaque.
