The Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) launched the Palestine Relief Fund following the beginning of the October Israeli-Palestine conflict in an initiative aims to address the pressing needs arising from the crisis.

To address common queries surrounding the fund, MRC has compiled a list of frequently asked questions:
1. Fund Transfer to Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS)
The funds collected for the Palestine Relief Fund will be securely transferred to the Palestine Red Crescent’s Emergency Appeal accounts.
2. Utilisation of Funds by PRCS
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has delineated their requirements within the Emergency Appeal, concentrating on the following key areas:
– Provision of support for ambulances, medical supplies, equipment, and psychological aid kits for children and volunteers.
– Assistance in logistics, including fuel for generators and vehicles, maintenance of vehicles, and infrastructure.
– Livelihood support, which encompasses the distribution of food, water, emergency shelter assistance, and cash aid to host and displaced families. The Palestinian Red Crescent will directly manage these funds.
3. Fund Transfer Timeline
Upon the conclusion of the fundraising campaign on October 28, 2023, the pledged amount will be communicated to PRCS by MRC. The funds will be transferred through local banks and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
4. Addressing Closed Borders
The Palestine Red Crescent operates both inside and outside of the Gaza area, with support from various Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies. The International Committee of the Red Cross, mandated by the Geneva Convention, actively facilitates the passage of relief and humanitarian assistance.
5. Transparency in Fund Usage
All National Societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are committed to transparently reporting on their operations and the use of donor funding. These reports are made available to the public. MRC has maintained rigorous monitoring and conducted on-site visits to countries where aid has been provided whenever possible.
6. Administrative Costs
MRC does not deduct any administrative costs from the donations received. The only associated costs are bank charges, which may be applied and will be communicated to the public.
7. Why Donate to MRC Palestine Relief Fund
Amidst the various campaigns supporting humanitarian causes, the MRC Palestine Relief Fund adheres to international humanitarian standards, guaranteeing transparency and accountability in fund management. MRC’s Finance Committee and Complaints Committee consist of experts who oversee the entire process.
8. Visibility of Donated Funds
The primary objective of the MRC Palestine Relief Fund is to bolster the Palestine Red Crescent Emergency Appeal. This document contains detailed information about how the funds will be utilised. By supporting the Appeal, PRCS can provide targeted assistance to those in need, adapting to evolving circumstances and challenges.
9. Extending Donation Period
MRC remains vigilant in monitoring the situation and staying informed about the latest updates from PRCS. Any alterations to the donation period will be communicated on their official website and social media channels.
