The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has enacted alterations to the delineation of islands within the four constituencies of the GA. Atoll, after releasing an interim report concerning the forthcoming parliamentary elections’ population last September.
In light of the total population tallying 15,510, the nine islands constituting the GA. Atoll have been restructured into four distinct constituencies.
The revised constituency divisions are as follows:
The Gemanafushi constituency includes Gemanafushi, Kanduhulhudhoo, and Dhevvadhoo.
Dhaandhoo constituency now encompasses Dhaandhoo, Nilandhoo, and Kondey.
In contrast, the Kolamaafushi constituency now consists of Kolamaafushi and Mamendhoo.
Villingili now exclusively encompasses the island of Vilingili.
The rationale behind this change, according to the ECM, is to balance the population across the constituencies.
Earlier, the Election Commission had disclosed receiving 65 complaints concerning the delineation of constituencies, prompting these adjustments to the boundaries.
