New Judges Appointed in Maldives Courts

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC), today, revealed several new appointments made in various courts across the country.

These appointments were made in the 70th and 71st meetings of the JSC.

The appointments are as follows:

1. Civil Court of the Maldives

   – New Judge: Al-Ustaz Adam Zalif

   – Qualifications: Bachelor of Sharia and Master of Sharia from Villa College

   – Experience: Over 7 years in the judicial sector

   – Previous Roles: Member of the Tribunal, Advocate, Legal Assistant at Fuvahmulah Magistrate’s Court, Managing Partner of A&Z Associates LLP

2. Hdh. Nolhivaram Magistrate Court

   – New Judge: Al-Ustaz Ahmed Areej

   – Qualifications: Bachelor of Sharia and Law with Honors from Kulliyathu Dhiraasathul Islamiya and Master of Sharia from Villa College

   – Experience: Active in the judiciary since 2014

   – Previous Role: Public prosecutor in the Prosecutor General’s Office

3. B. Dharavandhoo Magistrate Court

   – New Chief Magistrate: Mariyam Rasa Rafiu

   – Qualifications: Bachelor of Sharia and Law, Master of Laws from Maldives National University

   – Experience: 5 years in the legal field

   – Previous Role: Company Secretary and Legal Counsel at Maldives Ports Limited

4. N. Maafaru Magistrate Court

   – New Chief Magistrate: Al-Ustaz Mohamed Emaan

   – Qualifications: Bachelor of Sharia from Villa College and Master of Laws from Maldives National University

   – Experience: 6 years in the judicial field

   – Previous Roles: Legal Officer of the Local Government Authority, Assistant Legal Officer of the Drug Court, Public Prosecutor at the Prosecutor General’s Office

5. Hdh. Hanimaadhoo Magistrate Court

   – New Chief Magistrate: Al-Ustazah Aminath Zafira

   – Qualifications: Bachelor of Sharia and Law, Master of Laws from Maldives National University

   – Experience: 5 years in the judiciary

   – Previous Role: Legal officer in the President’s Office

6. Sh. Komandoo Magistrate Court

   – New Chief Magistrate: Al-Ustazah Hawwa Ibrahim

   – Qualifications: Bachelor of Sharia and Law with Honors from Kulliyathu Dhiraasathul Islamiya

   – Experience: 5 years in the judiciary

   – Previous Roles: Assistant Investigating Officer at the Anti-Corruption Commission, Legal Officer at Khulhudhuffushi Magistrate’s Court

7. GA. Dhaandhoo Magistrate Court

   – New Chief Magistrate: Al-Ustaz Hammad Wafir

   – Qualifications: Bachelor of Sharia and Law from Maldives National University

   – Experience: 5 years in the legal field

   – Previous Role: Senior State Attorney in the Attorney General’s Office
