The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has taken the decision to suspend Party Senator Mohamed Maleeh Jamal from all party activities, citing alleged attempts to discredit and divide the party.
In an official letter signed by PPM vice-presidents Ahmed Shiyam and Ghassan Maumoon, it was stated that the party’s leadership had observed Maleeh efforts to undermine the party’s unity and tarnish its reputation.
The letter outlined several actions taken by Maleeh that prompted the suspension.
Among the allegations, Maleeh was accused of forming committees without the party senate’s knowledge, violating the party constitution, and conducting a press conference in the party’s name without consulting the leadership or the senate.
The letter further claimed that Maleeh had been actively involved in attempts to defame and create division within the party.
As a consequence of these alleged actions, Maleeh has been suspended from participating in any party activities.
The letter explicitly instructed Maleeh not to engage in any party-related activities until the committee reaches a decision on the matter.
In response to the suspension, a steering committee, allegedly appointed by former President Abdullah Yameen to oversee the PPM, held an emergency press conference.
This steering committee, headed by former Commissioner General of Customs Abbas Adil Riza and former Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, addressed the unfolding situation within the party.
