Fenaka Corporation Limited, has made a request to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to clear the criminal records of more than 3,900 of its employees.
The transitional committee, during the government transitional period, reported significant political hiring in Fenaka by the previous administration. Similar findings were disclosed regarding other SOEs, indicating a widespread trend of politically motivated recruitments.
In 2018, Fenaka had approximately 2,600 employees. However, the previous administration increased the workforce by over 4,000 during the government transition, including temporary staff. The current Fenaka management discovered instances of Employment Act violations, with certain employees having unresolved criminal records.
The PGO, which typically resolves online record clearance requests within a day, faced a challenge due to the large number of criminal records submitted by Fenaka. While the PGO processes around 13,000 criminal record forms annually, it received 3,930 forms on November 11 alone, constituting 30% of the expected yearly volume.
After working overnight, 3,419 forms were cleared, prompting the PGO to implement a policy restricting record clearance to official working hours. However, the PGO plans to resume daily criminal record clearance services once the submitted forms are validated.
