The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has officially initiated the by-election process to fill vacancies in local councils on three islands, with an additional focus on the women’s development committee in one of the locales.
According to the ECM’s announcement, the polling stations opened their doors at 08:00 am today and are scheduled to close at 04:00 pm.
The by-elections are currently underway for local councils in HA. Kelaa, N. Maafaru, and ADh. Hangnameedhoo. Notably, Maafaru is also engaging in the electoral process to appoint members to the island’s women’s development committee.
The ECM plans to extend its by-election efforts into the next year, with upcoming contests, including the Male’ City Council by-election.
