According to the committee’s resolution, the president’s monthly salary will see a MVR 20,000 increase, bringing it to a total of MVR 120,000. The vice president’s salary will also be raised from the current MVR 75,000 to MVR 93,000.

Initially proposing a salary increase for government ministers to MVR 72,000, with a basic salary of MVR 53,000, the committee opted for a modified approach after thorough discussions. The basic salary was adjusted to MVR 55,000, resulting in a total monthly salary of MVR 74,000 for government ministers.

During the meeting, Vilufushi MP Hassan Afeef highlighted that the salaries of the president and vice president are legally defined, requiring a legislative amendment for any increments. Afeef proposed the repeal of the legal provision specifying these salaries, a recommendation that gained approval from the committee members without objection.

In addition to these decisions, the committee also approved salary increases for judges. The chief justice’s salary will be elevated to MVR 91,000, while other justices at the Supreme Court will receive MVR 89,000.

The chief judge of the High Court is set to receive a salary of MVR 70,000, with other High Court judges earning MVR 68,000. Chief judges at the Criminal Court, the Civil Court, Family Court, and Juvenile Court will see their salaries increased to MVR 62,000, and other judges at the superior courts will receive MVR 60,000.

All proposed changes were endorsed unanimously by the committee members. The session concluded with a comprehensive report on the decisions taken, signaling the culmination of the committee’s deliberations on the matter.
