Thirteen MDP Parliamentarians Make Political Shift, Join PNC in Key Ceremony

Thirteen parliamentarians affiliated with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have formally joined the People’s National Congress (PNC), the principal party in the ruling coalition.
The transition took place during a special ceremony hosted by the PNC, where the parliamentarians submitted their membership forms.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, leader of the ruling coalition, accepted the forms and extended a warm welcome to the new members. President Muizzu asserted that their decision to align with the PNC was made in the best interests of the nation.
The parliamentarians who joined the PNC include:
- Ibrahim Shareef, representing Maradhoo Constituency
- Mohamed Nihad, representing Feydhoo Constituency
- Ahmed Haitham, representing South Mahchangolhi Constituency
- Ali Hameed, representing Isdhoo Constituency
- Abdulla Shaheem Abdul Hakeem, representing Kanditheemu Constituency
- Abdul Ghanee Abdul Hakeem, representing Kurendhoo Constituency
- Hassan Zareer, representing Mathiveri Constituency
- Ibrahim Naseer, representing Mulah Constituency
- Abdul Muhsin Hameed, representing Nilandhoo Constituency
- Adam Ali, representing South Maafannu Constituency
- Mohamed Rasheed, representing Komandoo Constituency
- Hassan Shiyan, representing Thoddoo Constituency
- Ibrahim Shaz, representing Guraidhoo Constituency
Addressing the gathering, PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla highlighted the party’s remarkable growth, citing an increase in membership from 3,022 during the recent presidential election to over 40,000.
With the inclusion of these new members, the PNC’s representation in Parliament now stands at 15, while the MDP’s representation has reduced to 42.
