Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has made amendments to the Corrections Employment Rules, resulting in a reduction of working hours for their staff.
Previously, corrections staff were obligated to work 40 hours a week; however, the newly gazetted amendments now stipulate a 35-hour workweek for these personnel.
It is noteworthy that this change exclusively affects corrections staff, while prison officers’ working hours remain unchanged. Prison officers continue to be required to dedicate a minimum of 48 hours per week to their duties.
In line with broader employment adjustments, prison officers will also experience a reduction in their working hours, aligning with the new 35-hour workweek mandate.
