The official further noted that finalisation of candidates for some constituencies and the voters list remains pending.

This marks the second time the primary has faced a delay; originally scheduled for December, it was deferred to January 20 due to school and end-of-year holidays.

The primary welcomes members from other parties within the ruling coalition, including MDA and MDA.

In a parallel development, the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has also rescheduled its primary from January 26-27 to February 3.
