The government has announced its decision to transfer the fuel storage facility currently situated in Funadhoo, Kaafu Atoll, to Maagiri Falhu.

During a press conference, Abdulla Nazim, the Public Policy Secretary at the President’s Office, revealed that the Economic Council had taken the initiative to commence the relocation process. Furthermore, he stated that the council had entrusted the State Trading Organisation (STO) with the responsibility of overseeing the transfer of its fuel storage.

Addressing concerns, the government refuted allegations suggesting that the relocation was targeted at Maagiri Falhu, near the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort. Instead, officials clarified that the move is directed towards Maagiri Falhu near Thilafushi.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu outlined a timeline for the relocation, indicating that the process would be completed within 18-24 months. Additionally, he outlined plans for the development of Funadhoo as a financial hub, with proposed establishments including financial centers, convention centers, and hotels.
