The government’s decision entails allocating the official 1,000 Hajj quota to Hajj Corporation, with Minister Shaheem underscoring the refusal to commercialize quota slots, regardless of any additional allocations. He clarified that private companies would only be granted slots under Hajj Corporation’s supervision, adhering to the corporation’s guidelines to streamline pilgrimage facilitation and alleviate queue congestion.

Moreover, Minister Shaheem highlighted the significance of official engagements with Saudi Arabia concerning Hajj and Umrah matters, noting a decade-long hiatus since the last ministerial visit in 2014. Stressing Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in providing essential religious services and substantial contributions to mosque construction in the Maldives, he underscored the necessity for regular senior-level exchanges.

Regarding his recent visit to Saudi Arabia, Minister Shaheem disclosed discussions with the Saudi Hajj and Umrah Minister aimed at enhancing services for Maldivian pilgrims. He disclosed agreements to ensure specialised accommodations for Maldivian pilgrims in Arafat and Mina during this year’s Hajj, anticipating notable improvements in services at these sites. Additionally, deliberations included talks on augmenting the Maldives’ Hajj quota to accommodate the growing demand.
