India and Maldives Agree on Mutual Terms to Sustain Indian Aviation Operations

The Ministry of External Affairs of India announced last night that India and the Maldives have come to mutual agreements facilitating the uninterrupted operations of Indian aviation platforms offering humanitarian and medical evacuation services in the Maldives.

The second meeting of the High-Level Core Group between the Maldives and India convened in New Delhi, India’s capital, on Friday.

In response to the meeting, the Maldivian Foreign Ministry stated on Friday night that the Indian government has committed to withdrawing Indian military personnel from the Maldives before May 10th.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs also addressed the meeting, indicating that both parties have reached consensus on a set of practical solutions to ensure the ongoing functioning of Indian aviation platforms, which deliver vital humanitarian and medical evacuation services to the people of the Maldives.

Additionally, the Ministry highlighted that the discussions during the meeting encompassed various aspects of bilateral cooperation aimed at identifying measures to bolster the partnership, including expediting the implementation of ongoing development cooperation projects.

Both ministries affirmed that the subsequent meeting of the High-Level Core Group will take place in the Maldives at a mutually agreeable time.

Before this development, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who campaigned on the platform of expelling Indian military personnel from the Maldives, formally requested India to withdraw its military personnel by March 15th.
