Gov’t to Release Hajj Pilgrim List in February
Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has outlined plans for the compilation of the Hajj pilgrims’ list, indicating that this process will commence in February.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has made a commitment to facilitate the Hajj pilgrimage for 1,000 individuals who face financial constraints over the course of his tenure’s initial five years. He has declared that the first batch of 50 individuals will undertake the pilgrimage this year.
In an interview with PSM News, Minister Shaheem shared insights into the procedures for selecting individuals eligible for state-funded Hajj pilgrimages, with guidelines having been made available to the public.
He highlighted the formation of a dedicated committee within the Ministry of Islamic Affairs tasked with expediting the requisite procedures within a fortnight. Furthermore, he underscored their objective of finalising the selection of the initial 50 individuals by February, ensuring adherence to established regulations when notifying the chosen candidates.
According to the stipulations, individuals aged under 70 in good health will be chosen from the impoverished registry. The state will cover travel expenses for those residing in the atolls, as well as any medical costs incurred during the pilgrimage. Transportation arrangements will be managed by the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited.
