Government has introduced a new policy aiming to improve health standards and control the spread of diseases among long-term foreign residents in the Maldives, excluding tourists.
Key amendments to the policy include:
Mandatory medical check-ups for immigrants upon their initial entry into Maldives, irrespective of visa category (Work Visa, Dependent Visa, Resident Visa, Student Visa, Corporate Resident Visa, or Marriage Visa). Additionally, immigrants are required to undergo annual medical examinations, adhering to the standards outlined by the Ministry of Health.
Requirement for medical check-ups during visa extension processes, particularly for immigrants originating from countries where specific diseases monitored by the Ministry of Health are prevalent.
Compulsory medical examinations for immigrants applying for the Marriage Visa at the time of their initial application.
Introduction of additional health screening measures for immigrants hailing from countries where filariasis is endemic. Positive test results for filariasis will necessitate completion of treatment before medical certification is granted.
The adjustment in medical regulations for foreigners follows a hiatus of two years during which foreign nationals ceased submitting medical applications while applying for visas. This decision was prompted by recent diagnoses of filariasis among a group of foreign nationals, a disease previously eradicated from the Maldives.
The implementation of these revised guidelines reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring the well-being of both citizens and residents alike.
