Loan Slots Allocated to Students With Disabilities

The Ministry of Higher Education in the Maldives has announced the opening of 500 student loan slots aimed at facilitating higher education opportunities both domestically and abroad, including special allocations for individuals with disabilities.
Dr. Mariyam Mariya, Minister of Higher Education, highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering expertise in crucial fields through a comprehensive five-year plan. The 500 loan opportunities announced are part of this strategic initiative, covering educational pursuits ranging from diploma to Ph.D. studies.
Emphasizing inclusivity, Minister Dr. Mariyam underscored the special priority given to students with disabilities in accessing higher education.
In addressing these challenges, the Minister explained the government’s decision to consider each student’s disability individually, ensuring additional coverage to accommodate specific needs. This approach aims to mitigate obstacles hindering students’ educational pursuits, fostering an environment conducive to their academic success.
State Minister for Higher Education, Ahmed Shafeeu, reiterated the importance of recognizing and addressing the unique requirements of students with disabilities.
Collaborating with the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Ministry of Higher Education aims to allocate slots specifically tailored to individuals with special needs from the 500 student loans available.
The application process for these loans has been announced, with a deadline set for March 21st. The Ministry assures applicants of a thorough review process, with opportunities for necessary corrections before the deadline for second-round applications on April 25th.
