Ooredoo Maldives’s PEACE Cable, an international submarine cable which connects Kulhudhuffushi to Singapore and France, is now operational.
Ooredoo Maldives celebrated the milestone, highlighting the cable’s new route from Europe to Kulhudhuffushi. The company expects this route to diversify internet service provider traffic and stimulate growth beyond the capital Malé.

The project includes the establishment of tier 3 certified data centre in Kulhudhuffushi, positioning the northern Maldives as a burgeoning digital hub, according to Ooredoo.
Earlier this year, Ooredoo Maldives announced the official landing of the PEACE Cable in Kulhudhuffushi City. This marks the first time an international cable has landed in an island other than Hulhumalé.
The project aims to support the Maldives’ rapid digital transformation, providing a gateway to both Eastern and Western markets. It is anticipated to attract hyperscalers and managed services, create new jobs, and develop local skill sets, significantly contributing to the country’s digital economy.
The PEACE Cable system will connect a population of over 2 billion people, linking Asia, Africa, and Europe. It will span over 25,000 km, providing a direct route from Singapore to France and an additional channel from Singapore to Africa.
