Vice President’s International Trips Cost MVR 1.8 Million, President’s Office Reveals
The President’s Office has disclosed that Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef’s trips to Iran and Paris incurred a total expenditure of MVR 1.8 million.
Vice President Latheef’s visit to Paris, which took place from 24 to 25 July, was undertaken to attend the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The trip cost MVR 1.3 million. The Vice President accepted the invitation in recognition of a Maldivian athlete competing in the Olympics for the first time in the country’s history.
During his stay, he met with the Maldivian delegation, offered encouragement to the athletes, and also engaged with local Maldivian students residing in France to discuss the advancement of the country’s sports sector.
Following his visit to Paris, the Vice President travelled to Iran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s ninth President, Masoud Pezeshkian. During this visit, he also met with Palestinian officials to discuss the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict and the resulting civilian casualties in Gaza. This segment of the trip cost MVR 464,617. Overall, the total expenditure for both trips amounted to MVR 1.8 million.
