Applications Open for Prosecutor General Position

The President’s Office has announced that applications for the position of prosecutor general are now open, following the departure of Hussain Shameem last week.

Applications will be accepted from 08:30 to 12:00 on September 10 and 11, with the deadline for submission set at 12:00 on September 11. Interested candidates can download the application forms from the President’s Office website.

Following submission, the President’s Office will review the applications. The final nominations will then be forwarded to Parliament for approval.

Hussain Shameem, who served as prosecutor general from December 8, 2019, until his dismissal on August 22, 2024.

According to the law, a new prosecutor general must be appointed within 30 days of the post becoming vacant. As Parliament is currently in recess following the vote, an extraordinary session will be required to appoint Shameem’s successor.
