Customs Seizes MVR 1 Million Worth of Drugs Smuggled via Maldives Post

The Maldives Customs Service has intercepted drugs valued at MVR 1 million, reportedly smuggled through the Maldives Post.

In a statement, Customs revealed that the illegal substances were seized last Tuesday during an inspection of four packages sent via the postal service. The packages contained synthetic cathinone, weighing approximately 0.6 kilograms.

The confiscated drugs have been handed over to the Maldives Police Service, who will continue the investigation.

This seizure comes amid intensified efforts by local authorities to combat drug trafficking. According to police statistics, there have been 1,102 drug-related cases reported in 2024 so far.
