Mayor of Male’ City, Adam Azim, extended his appreciation to the Maldives Police for their continued support in maintaining the city’s hygiene standards. He noted that, despite regular efforts, issues such as garbage being dumped on roads, improper disposal of food waste, and inadequate drainage during rainy periods continue to affect the public.

He explained the council’s staff have been actively collecting garbage from early morning until the end of each day in Male’ and Villimale’, and that they collect between 30 to 40 tonnes of waste from the two islands daily.

He also stressed the importance of community cooperation, urging residents to refrain from littering on streets, in public parks, or lagoons. According to the Mayor, the ongoing waste management challenge is not solely an issue of infrastructure, but also one of public attitude.

The Male’ City Council has reiterated its commitment to maintaining cleanliness across the city and called on all citizens to support these efforts by adopting more mindful waste disposal practices.
