16-Year-Old Killed in Early Morning Motorcycle Accident

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that a 16-year-old passenger died following a motorcycle crash near the Sinamalé Bridge in the early hours of today.

Police said they received reports at approximately 1:39am that a motorcycle had lost control near the Sinamalé Bridge and crashed into the pavement.

At the time of the accident, a 19-year-old Maldivian man was driving the motorcycle, while a 16-year-old Maldivian was seated on the back. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said that the 16-year-old died while receiving treatment.

MPS also stated that the motorcycle was being driven by an individual who did not hold a valid driving licence. Authorities are investigating the incident.
