A Man Charged Over Murder Case in Maavah
Mohamed Ibrahim, 29, taken into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing in Laamu Maavah.
Authorities in the Maldives have charged a man in connection with the fatal stabbing of 29-year-old Moosa Ibrahim in Laamu Maavah on 28 July.
Police said Moosa sustained severe neck injuries during an altercation with Mohamed Ibrahim, 29, and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Maavah Health Centre. A knife believed to have been used in the incident was later recovered from the sea.
Mohamed Ibrahim was taken into custody on the day of the incident and has remained in detention pending trial. According to reports, tensions between the two men began two days earlier, following a dispute linked to a drug-related matter.
An autopsy was conducted in India on 6 August. Moosa’s body was subsequently returned to the Maldives and buried on 10 August.
The Maldives Police Service confirmed that the investigation file was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office on 23 September. Prosecutors have since accepted the case and formal charges have been pressed against Mohamed Ibrahim.
