A Percentage of Revenue Collected by MIRA to be Given to Councils

To empower councils, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced today that a portion of the revenue collected by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) will be allocated to councils across the nation.

Addressing the residents of V. Keyodhoo, President Muizzu disclosed that amendments to the Tax Act will facilitate this initiative.

Furthermore, the President outlined plans to amend both the Decentralization Act and the Tourism Act, with the objective of directing a certain percentage of TGST collected from local tourism establishments to bolster council revenues. This move specifically targets hotels and guesthouses operating within the islands.

President Muizzu emphasised the importance of parliamentary cooperation in realising these legislative adjustments.
