The Aasandha company has clarified its position, stating that it does not object to sending patients to Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for treatment under the Aasandha national health insurance scheme.
Certain media outlets had previously reported that the company was “reluctant” to send patients to countries other than India and Sri Lanka for treatment abroad. This was based on a remark made by the managing director in response to a question posed by a parliamentary committee member on December 12. Aasandha has clarified that preparations are underway to send patients to Thailand and the UAE under the scheme in the future.
This declaration follows an earlier statement by Aasandha Managing Director Fathimath Zeeniya during a meeting with the SOE Committee of Parliament. Before the president’s announcement, Zeeniya had conveyed that the company had no intentions of expanding its services to additional countries.
The government, however, has not confirmed any plans to extend Aasandha coverage to more nations. Muizzu, speaking at the airport after his official visit to China, stated the government’s commitment to making the Maldives an independent country.
He announced the intention to discontinue the current practice of sending Maldivian patients to specific countries for health services under Aasandha. The President further revealed plans to expand the Aasandha system to include additional countries, specifically mentioning Thailand and the UAE.
