This decision follows Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s victory in the presidential election, where he secured 53.78% of the vote in the second round, defeating the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The transition to Muizzu’s presidency is now in motion, with preparations underway for his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for the 17th of next month.

Abdul Raheem Abdullah also holds the role of overseeing the PPM-PNC while opposition leader Abdullah Yameen is incarcerated. The coalition leadership made the decision to appoint him as the head of the interim committee responsible for managing the government’s transition during this period.

A senior official from the PPM-PNC has confirmed that the Civil Service Commission has been informed of Abdul Raheem’s appointment to lead the interim committee.

Furthermore, a special committee has been established by the current President to monitor and facilitate the transitional process.

After a meeting between President Solih and President-Elect Muizzu at the Presidential Office, the President delegated this task to Presidential Secretary, Corporate Services Hussain Amir, and Chief of Staff Ali Zahir.
