The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted another visit to the Police Cooperative Society (POLCO) office as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption cases.
ACC officials arrived at the POLCO office yesterday to gather evidence related to the inquiry. While specific details of the case have not been disclosed, a police spokesperson confirmed that the commission’s officials were still at the premises collecting relevant information.
The investigation follows previous inquiries into the Blues Housing Project, a scheme awarded to POLCO for the construction of housing flats for police officers in Hulhumalé. The project was intended to improve living conditions for police personnel, but allegations of corruption surrounding its execution have led to heightened scrutiny.
Concerns over irregularities in the Blues Housing Project initially triggered the ACC’s involvement in POLCO. Reports of possible mismanagement and corruption within the organisation brought the issue to public attention.
Recent developments indicate that the scope of the investigation may be broader than previously understood. During a parliamentary sub-committee meeting on Tuesday, held to examine corruption in the Blues Housing Project, Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim disclosed that a police whistleblower had provided information via email about additional fraud cases within POLCO. This revelation has raised further concerns about the extent of corruption in the organisation and prompted deeper investigation.
