ACC Discredits Alleged ‘Gedhoruveriya’ Scheme Disqualification Claims

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has officially debunked claims circulating on social media regarding the disqualification of applicants from the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ flat scheme.

In a statement released on Thursday, the commission confirmed that the alleged list of disqualified applicants is fraudulent upon thorough investigation.

According to the ACC, the list being circulated on social media regarding flat allocation under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme has been verified as inauthentic. The commission has further asserted its commitment to probe the matter meticulously and promised appropriate actions will be taken.

The contentious document claims to contain approximately 5,000 names of individuals allegedly disqualified from eligibility for a flat, based on ACC investigations, but still approved by the Housing Ministry under the previous administration.

This revelation comes five months subsequent to the ACC suspending flat allocations based on a permanent list of eligible candidates released by the former government, just two days prior to the incumbent administration’s assumption of office.

Two months later, the ACC disclosed that 60 percent of the 4,000 individuals listed as eligible were, in fact, ineligible. Moreover, only 20.7 percent of the application forms without discrepancies were deemed eligible. The remaining 19.7 percent of applications were eligible but contained inaccuracies.

Following these findings, the ACC has permitted the resumption of flat allocations. However, the current administration has announced plans for the Housing Ministry to re-evaluate all forms to ensure deserving candidates receive flats. To oversee this process, an independent committee has been established under the directive of President Dr. Abdulla Muizzu.

The construction of the initial 4,000 housing units under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme was contracted to Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC).
