The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken a significant step in the run-up to the forthcoming presidential election by launching a dedicated portal to facilitate the reporting of cases involving bribery.

Individuals implicated in electoral bribery are now able to initiate a case through the specially designed portal, as announced by the ACC. An emphasis has been placed on safeguarding the confidentiality of the reporting individuals, with updates on case developments being relayed in an anonymous manner.

The ACC has also given assurances of protection to whistleblowers, urging them to provide comprehensive and accurate information through the portal. Importantly, it has been clarified that cases within the jurisdiction of the ACC will only be officially registered if they are submitted via this portal.

Guidelines released by the ACC are set to play a pivotal role in curbing the risk of corruption in the context of electoral processes. These guidelines incorporate internationally recognized principles and technical benchmarks aimed at preventing electoral malpractice.

Addressing concerns commonly raised during election periods, these guidelines are intended to offer insights into deterring corrupt practices and vulnerabilities throughout the electoral cycle.

Moreover, they extend their purview to provide counsel and direction to governmental bodies, candidates, and political parties, fostering transparent and equitable conduct in election-related activities and thereby mitigating opportunities for corruption.

Embedded within these guidelines are recommendations regarding the handling of fundraising, expenditures, and campaign support for political parties and candidates. Additionally, the guidelines proffer guidance for the involvement of civil servants in election campaigns.

Furthermore, they delineate stringent regulations pertaining to the utilisation of state resources, finances, and positions in campaigning efforts, while staunchly advocating against bribery, vote buying, and selling.

In essence, these guidelines serve to underscore the paramount importance of upholding a corruption-free atmosphere throughout every facet of the election process, thereby bolstering public confidence in the democratic framework of the Maldives.
